Reunion Week Jobs

During Reunion Week, Dorm Crew and the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA) hire hundreds of students for a variety of jobs. The complete list of jobs is below. For some positions, you are hired by HAA in advance of Spring Clean-Up. For others, you are hired by Dorm Crew based on your job performance during Spring Clean-Up.

In order to work any Reunion Week job, you are required to work for Dorm Crew during Pre-Comm (Senior Week) on Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:45pm.

HAA-Selected Jobs

Children's Program Day Staff

JOB DESCRIPTION: Children’s Program Day Staff lead and supervise groups of children designated by age: Rainbow/Canary Group (18 months-5 years), Grape Group (6-8 years), Red Group (9–10 years), Blue Group (11–12 years), Green Group (13–14 years), and Young Adult Group (15+ years). Each group operates under the supervision of two Group Directors. Day Staff members are responsible for the safety and conduct of a child or a group of children as they aid in the implementation of the Children’s Program Reunion activities. Day Staff members are responsible for the complete care and supervision of the children from 6:30 AM until after dinner 6:30 PM from Thursday May 25, 2017–Saturday May 28, 2017. Staff will be required to attend an orientation on Saturday, May 20th. On Wednesday May 25, staff members will work to prepare group headquarters with directors. At 6:30 PM, children will be transitioned to the Evening Program space designated by age group each night. A Day Staff member may also be eligible for work as an Evening Staff member.

REQUIREMENTS: You must complete your hiring paperwork and undergo a CORI/SORI background check. You must work every day that the Children’s Program is in operation. Any worker who does not report for a designated shift will be required to vacate the Reunion dorm housing immediately. You must also work for Dorm Crew every day from Monday 5/15 through Friday 5/19 from 8:00am to 4:45pm.

COMPENSATION: Compensation for these services will be $12 an hour (with a .50 pay raise for each consecutive year worked) plus tips, room, and board.

HOUSING: Housing begins Sunday, May 14, 2017 and ends at 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 28, 2017. Rooms must be vacated by 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 28, 2017. Students will not be able to remain in their academic year rooms and will be given a new assignment by the Reunion Office.

Children's Program Evening Staff

JOB DESCRIPTION: Evening Staff members will be assigned to a designated Evening Program area where they will be responsible for the supervision of the children from 6:30 PM until 12:30 AM on Thursday May 25, 2017–Saturday May 28, 2017. The two Evening Programs will be divided by age groups: Rainbow/Canary/Grape, and Red/Blue/Green/Young Adult. Staff will be required to attend an orientation on Saturday, May 20th. On Wednesday May 25, staff members will work to prepare group headquarters with directors. Night Staff members are responsible for checking in the children when their Day Staff members drop them off. Night Staff members will also be responsible for making sure the children do not leave the building, unless accompanied by a parent. An Evening Staff member may be eligible for work as a Day Staff member.

Driver

JOB DESCRIPTION: Drivers will report to the Chief Transportation Coordinator and will operate passenger vans and moving trucks during the week of Reunions, May 22 – May 28, 2017. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, transporting alumni/ae to parking lots and dorm rooms, transporting staff to event locations, and transporting Reunion supplies to designated areas on campus.

REQUIREMENTS: You must be 21 years of age by May 1, 2017, have a valid driver’s license, and have experience driving mini passenger vans, moving vans, or trucks. You will be required to attend a mandatory meeting of Drivers during the week of May 1 (to be scheduled) and a mandatory orientation meeting on Saturday, May 20. You must be able to lift 50 pounds. You must complete your hiring paperwork and undergo a CORI/SORI background check. Dorm Crew-Selected Jobs

AlPo Setup Crews

Responsible for set-up and break-down of tables and chairs for Reunion events throughout the University, in addition to some miscellaneous duties. Most work is outside, rain or shine, and involves manual labor. Bring sunscreen.

  • Long Alpo Dates: Monday - Saturday
  • Medium Alpo Dates: Tuesday - Saturday
  • Short Alpo + Recycling Dates: Alpo work Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, work along River houses assisting with clearing out recycling. Involves moving items and loading trucks.

Hours: Vary, with some long days. Must be prepared to, and able to, work from 5am to 11pm. Potential for overtime.
Pay rate: $13.50 - $17.25

Bellhop

JOB DESCRIPTION: Bellhops will be assigned to a Reunion and work in partnership with HAA staff to welcome alumni to campus in a respectful and friendly manner. Bellhops will assist alumni in finding their room assignment, bringing their baggage from headquarters to the assigned room, navigating the registration process, and provide excellent customer service when fielding questions from alumni. Bellhops may also assist with guiding alumni to Reunion events from headquarters or designated pick-up or drop-off locations. Bellhops are expected to assist the Student Crew in charge of the Reunion Registration area, and help keep it neat and tidy. Bellhops may be asked to assist with other tasks, such as set-up of an event, posting signage, and moving reunion favors as needed.

Commencement Crew

On-call in the Yard and Houses to assist with various duties including arranging chairs, delivering water, and removing trash in support of Commencement Week events including ROTC, Class Day, and the Commencement day morning exercises and afternoon program. On Friday, assist with trash and recycling in the Yard and River Houses.

Dates:

  • Long Dates: Tuesday - Friday
  • Medium Dates: Wednesday - Friday
  • Short Dates: Thursday - Friday 

Hours: Vary, with some long days. Must be prepared to, and able to, work as early as 5am to as late as midnight depending on the day. Potential for overtime.

Pay rate: $13.50 - $17.25

Crimson Catering

Assist Crimson Catering with a variety of tasks to facilitate Commencement Week events: loading and unloading trucks, assembling supply kits, and accompanying drivers for delivery and pick up. Occasionally working events and assisting staff with set up/clean up. Seeking workers who are enthusiastic, ready to work, and able to lift at least 30lbs. Prior Crimson Catering experience preferred. Blue polo shirts will be provided. You must wear jeans or khaki pants (no shorts) and sneakers.

Dates:  Mon 5/22 - Sat 5/27

Hours: Hours vary. You must be available to work as early as 4am and as late as midnight some days

Pay Rate: $13.50 - $17.25

Dorm Crew & Recycling

Assist with bathroom cleaning, Commencement events, and trash and recycling in the Yard and river houses.

Date: Mon 5/22 - Wed 5/24, Fri 5/26 (Commencement Day is a day off)

Hours: 8am - 4:45pm. Potential for overtime.

Pay Rate: $13.50 - $17.25

HLS Dean of Students Assistant

Work closely with the Dean of Students Office and help with some of the labor associated with Commencement. One worker will be asked to be on stage during the actual diploma ceremony in business attire.

Date: Mon 5/22 - Fri 5/26

Hours: Hours vary. Typically 6-hour days beginning at 9am. Thu 5/25 starts at 6am.

Pay Rate: $13.50 - $17.25

Op Crew

On-call in the Yard and Houses to assist with miscellaneous duties ranging from making beds to cleaning entries as needed for reunions.

Dates: Monday - Saturday, depending on the building to which you are assigned.

Hours: Vary, at least 5 per day, starting at 8am.

Pay Rate: $13.50 - $17.25

Temporary Jobs

Temporary Work

If you don't get an HAA-selected or Dorm Crew-selected job, you must report at 8am every day for temporary work to keep your housing.

On-call in the Yard and Houses to assist with miscellaneous duties.

Dates: Monday - Saturday, optional work on Sundays.

Hours: Varies, though work each day is not guaranteed 

Pay Rate: $13.50 - $17.25
